What is breathing space?

  • Also known as white space or negative space.
  • The portion of the page left blank.
  • Space between: graphics, margins, columns, lines, figures etc...
  • It allows breathing space and is essential factor of design.

Example:

Google uses it effectively to focus on what is important where as yahoo don't use it.

Benefits of using white spaces:

  • Improves readability.
  • Focus on what is important.
  • Attracts the Eyes.
  • Directs viewers eyes.
  • Guides users more effectively.
