What is a monitor?

  • Device used to display output from a computer is called monitor.
  • A T.V like device usually connects to either HDMI, DVI or VGA port.


Computer screen and the monitor:

  • The term "monitor" is often used synonymously with "computer screen" or "display."
  • The monitor displays the computer's user interface and open programs, allowing the user to interact with the computer, using the keyboard and mouse.

Types of monitors:

Computer monitor can be categorized into two types:
  • CRT ( Cathode Ray Tube )
  • Flat Panel Display ( LCD and LED )
CRT monitors:
  • These monitors employ CRT technology, which was most widely and commonly used in manufacturing of old T.V screens.
  • They are heavy and bulky and not easy to replace.

Flat Panel Display:
LCDs:
  • LCD technology monitors produce good image quality, resolution and contrast levels.
  • They are light weight and easily portable than CRT monitors.
LEDs:
  • LED are more advanced than the LCD and has many more advantage the LCD.
  • They are light weight, portable and has more advantages
